  1. Special ed is a category that encompasses all areas of learning that are the exception to the rule (gifted, mentally retarded, etc...)  Learning Disabled is one of several classifications that fall under the category of Special Ed.

  2. WTF is a leaning disability?  Are these people with only one leg?  Are you in special ed?

  3. Someone can have a learning disability and not be in the Special Education program (e.g. because they are able to compensate for it themselves).  Someone can be in Special Education and have some kind of health impairment or physical disability that we don't normally call a learning disability, but which interferes with their learning unless they get specific accommodations to compensate for it.

  4. No baby ,if you mean the way i think you do,it would be considered the same thing. Not that it makes them dumb or any thing, some just don't catch on as quickly as others.Just means they need a little more time.

  5. Yes, there is a difference.  The term "special education" in my state is applied to the course curriculum for both those who have higher cognitive abilities (the very intelligent students in the "gifted program") as well as to those who are on the other end of the spectrum (those whose IQs are below average).  Those with "learning disabilities" are not necessarily placed in a "special ed" class - they may simply have some individual instruction plan designed for them (e.g. maybe they need to have a little extra time to finish a test, or maybe they are allowed to use a book for quizzes) - but they are placed in a "regular" classroom.

  6. A learning disability is given when a student is tested and his scores vary on the verbal and performance by greater than 1 standard deviation or usually 15 points.  Then someone is classified LD.  LD students typically score much higher on the verbal component than on the performance one.  A student is placed in special ed. when they are delayed in academic achievement in an area like math or reading.  Younger kids also are identified special ed. for poor handwriting, and speech delays.  All LD students are not classified special ed. and all special ed students do not meet criteria for LD.  As far as IQ most students that are LD have an average to above average IQ and kids that are special ed. have a borderline average-to low average-to average IQ.

  7. People with a leaning disability fall over easily...everyone I know that was or is in special ed seem to have no problem standing and walking...

if you meant LEARNING disability, that could be anything from dyslexia, poor eyesight, poor education, to any number of mental quirks that make reading hard.

And someone WITH a learning disablity can be in special ed...so they get the tutoring or extra help they need.
