Is there a difference between "Deviant Behavior" (Thio) 8th and 9th edition?

I can find the 8th edition of "Deviant Behavior" (Thio) on Amazon for substantially less than the newer 9th edition book. Are the differences between these two editions very noticeable? Thank you!

No ... dieviant behavior, is deviant behavior...against the norm.... if it's only one edition different then it's just going to be some examples that are different... but basically the same material........ o the pages might be all mixed up too.....

There will be minor differences between two editions of a text book, in most cases. I don't about this book in particular, but in my experience, you shouldn't have too much trouble if you get the previous edition. Some things will be reorganized, illustrations on different pages, and some examples might have changed, but the information and the theory he discusses is bound to be similar. Unlike a math text, a soc. text is unlikely to have different 'problems' and assignments, etc. However, before purchasing texts, I would check with your professor for the class. I never buy texts until after the first day of class to make sure what the prof will be using it for, etc. Then you can ask if an older edition of the book will do.

I think there is one additional chapter in 9...can't remember correctly.  I have 7th, 8th, 9th editions...I'll find them later this evening and let you know the difference.

There are also “Myth and Reality” statements that appear at the beginning of each of the behavior chapters. But, they are also discussed in the chapter....so you should be fine here as well.

My advice, buy the 8th edition and share with a friend for the one chapter that you will be missing.  Good luck...Thio's book is great! (Deviance is so much FUN!)
