Is there a difference between raw shrimp and cooked shrimp for catfish bait?

i am looking for some shrimp to use as catfish bait but i noticed there are two kinds.....raw and cooked. the cooked are like 3.50$ and the raw are like 4.50$. would cooked shrimp work as good as raw shrimp? or should i just save a dollar?

  1. The above answer isn't the reason why you should choose raw over cooked. Catfish are generally in murky waters, and do not use their eye sight all that much when eating. They are bottom feeders. Like carp they will eat pretty much anything.

    But getting them to eat your bait is a different story. For catfish fishing you are going to want to use raw meat for bait (shrimp, beef, pork and chicken livers are all good for cats).The purpose for using meat for catfish fishing is that it emits a lot of scent in and around the area in which you are fishing.

    Cooked meat doesn't smell as strong.

    Another reason to choose raw meat is that your bait is less likely to be ripped off your hook by little nit-pickin pan fish.


  2. yes raw looks more like it did in the water so fish don't think it is a fake bait and will go for it more often
