Is there a difference between running on asphalt than on concrete?

Does asphalt offer a resiliency that concrete does not offer? I am 60 and would prefer to do as little damage to my bones as possible.

Thanks!

  1. Asphalt has more give to it... So it's better for your joints. However, there is a downside... Since it does have more give, it will absorb more of your energy... meaning, you'll feel like you're running slower, because it takes more energy to run on that surface.

Rubberized is even worse... because it absorbs even more energy...

If you're running on a track that goes from one to the other, I would start on the concrete and finish on the asphalt or rubberized part...

  2. Asphalt is much softer than concrete, or maybe concrete is much harder than asphalt.

If you have a choice you should stay on the softer surface when running.

Some trails are asphalt or a rubberized substance.

At any age you need to cushion yourself as much as possible.

  3. Asphalt has a little bounce and it's softer.

Concrete is just like running on a flat rock.

  4. asphalt is better for u. but try to find softer grounds so u dont end up wit shinsplits like me

  5. run on pillows
