Modern Olympics (since the late 19th-early 20th century) is mostly about winning medals and supposedly fostering international spirit & competition.

The ancient Olympics were mostly a religious sports festival to please the Greek gods.

The original (and i mean when they were restarted in 1896) were the spirit of competition.

Now, it is politicized beyond belief
