Is there a difference between traction tires and all-weather tires?

I'm driving over a mountain pass today, and traction tires are advised. I drive a 2008 Mazda 3 and I know that I have all-weather tires. Should I be ok?

  1. This could be very dangerous, you have all-weather tires but you wont have good traction and if you must go I would drive at a slower speed and be alert.

  2. All season tires are not enough to drive through high mountain passes in the winter, most places have a dedicated winter tire requirement or you have to have tire chains. The reason for this is that they don't want the road to get plugged up by somebody that can not make it up the pass, especially on a 2 lane road. Once vehicles lose momentum going up on a snow covered highway its hard to get going again.

  3. traction tires have metal studs it the tread. all weather tires are just regular tires that are rated for mud and snow. carry chains and drive slow

  4. traction tires will be better and advisable as they have metal in the tread for better grip and handling. All weather tires are just standard tires that are for winter weather, slight sleat and snow or muddy conditions.   I would recommend you use chains on your tires and take extra care as it is weird the first time driving with chained tyres, call it a fun new experience.

    Does your Mazda have 4x4?

Defo call your local Mazda garage and ask them what they think also.

    Good luck and have fun.

  5. rubber compound and tread design

  6. no, you want mud and snow tires..but if you made it then you're fine...

  7. All seasons are not really made to drive through snowy mountain passes. Dedicated snow tires would be perferred and maybe even studded snows, even then depending on your car (not sure if Mazda 3 has AWD) I would not recomend going through a high snow area with out all wheel drive.
