A hug is normally arms around a body for a few seconds. A cuddle can be the whole body entwined for hours.

I think a hug is a quick embrace with anyone, (ie friend, relative, work mate whatever) a cuddle is a more intimate longer hug with someone close (close relative, partner, good friend)

A hug is quick, like a few seconds and you're done. With a cuddle you stay there as close as you can, much more personal. Correct me if I'm wrong.

hugging is like open armed, friendly sort of sign of appreciation done anywhere and anytime while cuddling is a sort of wrapping and embracing, that is suppose to be intimate, or done lovingly, usually only done alone in bed with someone else.

hugs can be done standing up and normally end whenever you want to..cuddles can happen standing up sitting down or laying down and cuddling is to hold tenderly and too close.

Yes, I hug friends if I haven't seen them in a while. A cuddle would be more prolonged and maybe involve more stroking (not sexual though) as with a small child or a partner.

Well my idea would be  that a hug  is an embrace of reasonably short duration.  20 to 30 seconds perhaps ,  A cuddle  is more likely to be sitting than standing,  and goes on for rather longer ,  Perhaps for ages  if the cuddle develops into more
