Is there a difference in a cable tv wall plate from Wal-mart and one you would get from the cable company?

I am about to split some wires in my home and I purchased a wall plate from Wal-mart. I looked at the one I have installed from my cable company and it looks a little different. Is there a difference? I am asking in terms of picture and signal quality, not looks.

Overall they are pretty much the same. As long as you install everything correctly you will not notice a difference. I installed cable for years, and used a large variety of components and never noticed a difference when properly installed.

They will function the same, but the cable company one is probably much stronger. The splitter that the cable company furnishes is probably much better quality than the one from Wal-Mart.
