Is there a difference in flea medication for dogs?

My English Bulldog, Sally, just received a flea bath two weeks ago. I bombed the house and treated her with Hartz flea medication (liquid you spread down her back). I threw away her bed. I have hardwoods throughout the whole house so I thought I had taken care of everything. Today... fleas again!!! My girlfriend says it was probably the Hartz medication not being any good. Should I try something else?

  1. I have had great results with Adams Plus shampoo and spray this year.  Do not like Hartz anything sorry.  Also you MUST vacuum everything baseboards, carpeting etc.  after you did the bomb.  I do not think the bombs are effective much.  Home depot carries a gallon of home spray that is pretty good and if you vacuum up every nook and cranny for several days in a row and then empty the vacuum dust into a sealed trash container they will be gone.  Spray again in two weeks.  In the meantime wash him with the shampoo and flea comb him often to get all of the flea dust  and eggs out of his coat.

  2. It takes a while for the medicine to take effect.  I'm not entirely sure how long.  You should get her another bed.  One where the casing can come off so you can wash it.  Or a thick blanket.

  3. i would go wit frontline if u cant aford that i would go wit natural defense all the ither ones are really bad for dogs and wont help wit the fleas

  4. You should get ADVANTAGE or FRONTLINE.................................. stuff from the drug store is c**p.

  5. I also tried Hartz, but it didn`t work.

I use Frontline Plus and it works great.

When it is very hot or humid, that is when the fleas seem the worse.

Since using the Frontline Plus, my dog is bugless and so is my house.

  6. NEVER use anything by Hartz- for that matter, never use anything that did not come from the vet. Hartz products are notorious for causing animal deaths.

    Try Frontline and Capstar.

  7. you also need to treat the grass outside, the eggs drop off in a couple of weeks eggs hatch! K-9 Advantic works great. you can get from your vets or order on line,Check out www.eliteblitz.com on where to order. you also can get stuff for grass from home depo or lowes.

  8. There are better quality flea medications....Advantage, Frontline, both topical, and Program an oral medication. These are a bit stronger and last longer. I like Advantage the best. It kills fleas when they bite the dog...the only problem is they have to bite the dog...so the poor pooch ends up feeling itchy! It sounds like you are off to a good start, The saying goes that for every flea on your pet there are at least 100 more in the environment. Your vet can go through the life cycle of fleas with you and help you choose the right choice of treatment for your dog.

  9. Try something else.

It's been known for over the counter flea meds have made dogs really ill or just not work at all. The chemicals are all the same amount in the over the counter ones and too much of it could kill them.

If you google "Hartz Victims", you'll learn how Hartz flea drops are bad. just search.

Try frontline, advantage, or advantix k9.

    Good luck.

  10. Frontline is the only flea medicine that worked for me.  It's easy as well.  Put a little in between the dogs shoulder blades once a month and your done.  Been there done that.  3 dogs 4 cats and 4 rabbits.

  11. Do Not, I repeat do NOT use Hartz products..they are ineffective and worse they are dangerous..they can cause skin irritations, skin burns, seizures, neurological issues and even death.Bombing is useless unless you remove everything in your house/room you are bombing..bombs simply go up in the air and down where fleas aren't..waste of time & money..Flea baths do nothing long term, all they do is take care of fleas on the dog at the time of the bath.

Go to your vet and get a good, safe, effective flea med like Frontline or Advantage..get a good safe household spray.Use the spray around baseboards, under furniture, couch/chair cushions places where fleas are.
