Is there a difference in purple hearts for police officers and military servicemen?

Do the hearts police officers receive look any different than ones given to servicemen and women?

They may be similar, but they will not be the same.

The International Chiefs of Police Association has recently adopted uniform standards for awards, so any agency belonging to that organization will be judged by the same criteria, and get the same award. Last I heard, the Sheriff counterpart was considering the same standards.

If that happens, the medal will look the same on any department in the US.

Not only are they different, the purple hearts for law enforcement vary from state to state, city to city, etc.
