Is there a discernible difference between gold plated and nickel plated stereo cables?

  2. You would be hard pressed to hear any noticeable difference and just to clarify copper isn't cheap at all and isn't the best conductor like the other guy said, I'm an electrician and copper prices keep rising that is why copper theft is high.... and so I end my rant. But go with gold.

  4. Gold is more resistant to corrosion and moisture.

    However, unless you live in an area that is extremely humid, the only difference is that you'll pay a lot more for the gold plated ones.

    The actual conductors are most likely copper, which is the best cheapest conductor around.

    Best cheapest - as in the best conductors for the money, versus something else that might conduct slightly better, but cost significantly more.  I wasn't saying that copper is both the best and the cheapest.
