Question:

Is there a double standard for the Chinese?

There are so many people saying that the Chinese "cheated" with their younger gymnasts. Why aren't people asking the same question about Japan?

The average height of the Chinese girls team is 144.33 cm, average weight 35.00 kg. The Japanese team has an average height of 146.67 cm, average weight 37.33 kg. That's basically nothing.

  1. Three of the Chinese girls were underage. Earlier this year, they told the Chinese press they were born in 94 (two of them) and 96 (the other one). And they also laughed about the govt. giving them fake passports.

China has a long history of cheating both with age requirements and judging. The IOC has already taken several of their medals away in the past and I'm sure they will be taking at least two more of them for gymnastics alone in the near future.

Size has nothing to do with it. The American gymnasts' size is practically the same. They came out with the averages awhile back. Very little difference.

  2. I agree with you. Americans are such sore losers, they try to look for excuses for why they didn't win.

  3. It's because the Chinese are winning.  People feel if you win and you cheat, you should be punished.  But if you lose and you cheat, then there is less of a consequence.

It's like if you rob a bank.  If you end up stealing money, you get a bigger sentence.  If you run away with nothing, the penalty is lower.

  4. Size isn't the only factor in this issue, but more importantly, the Japanese team didn't win.  In any case, it is very difficult to prove that the Chinese girls were too young.  If the Chinese government is supporting their cheating with fake passports, then it would be near impossible to correct.  Aside from that, they also previously competed in international competitions, so there should be some previously established history.  If this also matches up, it seems unreasonable to think that the IOC could do anything about it.

Now with the vault competition, Cheng Fei somehow managed to beat out Alicia Sacramone's solid scores despite a terrible vault that ended in her landing on her knees.  Even though this looks like one of the worst judging errors in all of the Olympics, its difficult to label a panel of international judges as favoring China.

The IOC, however, does clearly have some bias towards appeasing China, just not necessarily in trying to give them medals.  The best example: China being permitted to censor international media in spite of previous agreements during the selection process to create a new open atmosphere to the foreign press.

  5. I think there is. THose ChiCom girls cute as all get out, but still losing their milk teeth. They aren't 15. Not to mention it seems like the Chinese girls can fall off the beam, knee land vaults and still beat the other countries.

The swimming is so much more refreshing with its cameras taking 100 photos per second. Electronic touch pads and non-human judging elements.

  6. Because the only people accusing them are the Americans , and only because china beat the US, if japan had beaten them, then the US would accuse them of cheating, whoever beats the US will be accused for cheating, because thats the way they are

  7. Because the Chinese wiped the floor with all the other teams that is why.
