Is there a dresscode for the interview with the US consul for the visa application?other preparations?

No dress code, but don't look like a goof.  Shower that day, wear clean clothes, and try to look mature and professional.

I assume that you are referring to an interview at a U.S. embassy/consulate, not with a U.S. consul. That being the case, there is certainly no required dress code, but informal attire (not casual) is certain to make a good impression.

As the poster above mentions, be sure to follow all directions you have already been given, such as arriving at a certain place/time and bringing appropriate documents.

Due to the increase in terrorist activities aimed at the United States in recent times, all U.S. embassies have increased their security procedures, and you will therefore most likely be required to pass through a security checkpoint before entering the embassy. You should have received instructions about what items to bring with you, and which you should not. Usually, no other person may accompany you into the embassy/consulate.

Additionally, there is usually a separate entrance and part of the embassy/consulate for visa and citizenship services.

Quite what the officer, with whom you have your interview, will be looking for, will depend upon the type of visa you are applying for.

If, for instance, you are applying for a non-resident visa (e.g. tourist, student) he/she will most likely be looking to see that you qualify for that visa and, most importantly, that you intend to leave the United States at the end of your stay.
