  1. All you need is your dvd-recorder, anothr vcr player, & a Video Digital Stabilizer;  this set up will by-pass the Copy-Protect on all the good, vhs movies.  Just type the Video Digital Stabilizer in your Search Engine, & go from there.  They're not very expensive, but get the best one. This way, you can put your vcr movies onto dvd; then get rid of the tapes, before they all go bad.

  2. I do not personally recommend the one-box solution. After you have copied all your VHS tapes to disc you will have a machine where one half is redundant. And these devices tend not to be of very high quality.

Far better to use a separate video player/recorder and a decent DVD recorder. If you haven't got a video player you can get a very good one very cheaply on eBay (or even free on Freecycle), then when you are finished with it you can pass it on again.

Plus, if you are copying tapes with copying restrictions the one box device will almost certainly fail to copy. With separate devices a number of options are open to you to overcome this, including something as simple as a "Smart" Scart lead.

  3. There are some cheap ones at Asda and Argos. mine is a DAEWOO DF-4100P

  4. there pretty common now, just a simple VHS and DVD recorder combi. there availible in argos and pretty much any electrical appliance store.
