  1. Probably not so much that you would notice.  Autofocus is directed by the camera's electronics.  The brain in the camera is telling the lens what to do.  It is possible that some lenses might be capable of moving where the camera has told it to move faster but I doubt it would be enough for you to notice.

If you in dark low light situations then a faster f-stop lens would be able to focus where your current lens can't, but then getting a add-on nikon flash would give your camera better focus assist light which would do the same thing.

  2. If you still want a zoom lens the 17-55 f2.8 is an excellent piece of glass. It's a bit easier on the wallet than the 24-70 too  :^)

  3. There is a nice 24-70 f/2.8 lens you may like, but it is a little costly.

If you don't mind manually focusing your lens (like everyone did a few years back) you can buy a nice Nikon 50 mm f/1.4 lens and they are affordable.

Look on NikonUSA's website for lenses you may like ... any AF-S listed there will work with your camera ... there are 29 to choose from

And no, your body has nothing to do with the speed of the lens ... a faster lens has a larger hole to let the light in ...
