Question:

Is there a faster way to get my Marines DEP Discharge so I can go to another military branch?

I am currently in the marines DEP program and through a roller coaster ride with him, I am ready to move on to another branch of service. I just got in the house from going up to the office to give him a letter for the commanding officer. Was that the right thing to do? The recruiter said I have to wait till my shipping date to get my DEP discharge paper. I want to join another branch and none will really deal with me until I'm completely out of the marines. So is there a way I can contact the commanding officer, or get this process expedited?

  1. ok tell your recrutier that you going to talk to your congressman about getting out of DEP. I'm 100%. Sure you'll get something moveing. We don't like for them to get in our stuff ...,

  2. The MEPS policy is not to process DEP discharge letters until after the shipping date of the original contract. You can try to contact a congressman or senator , but it won't do any good.

No there is no way to get a DEP discharge letter processed faster. It's done that way on purpose to help you young guys keep your word. If MEPS gave a discharge letter immediately for every time someone changed their mind they would need an entire office to handle it.

  3. The sad fact is your recruiter doesn't get points for helping you get out... it's more work for him without the payoff (they have a monthly quota) he'd much rather work on someone who wants to get in and stay in. You've handed in your letter and that's all you can do, you could try to get a congressmen involved but it would still take a while, if not longer. The truth is that they don't have to release you at all... the CO can deny your request. All he'll see is that you didn't qualify for a certain job and that to most CO's isn't a good enough reason for a discharge. The the other issue that you will have , if you do get the discharge, is explaining all of this to another branch because you are in MEPS' system and a DEP discharge will show up on your record. If the Marines couldn't give you a certain job, I highly doubt that you could get a similar MOS in another branch because all the standards are about the same when it comes to background and tattoos (I'm trying to re-enlist into USN from the Marines and I need a waiver for my USMC tattoo)... h**l these days even your credit score matters when picking your MOS. My advice is to stick it out, keep your commitment and in 4 yrs either switch branches or get out all together.

  4. The paper work should process in a fairly quickly time period. Just because your in the DEP, does not mean your actually enlisted into the Marine Corps.

Although i am in the Marines, and i dont recommend you leaving, if i were you i would have my father go to the office with me to help move the process a long a little faster.

sit down and think about what your doing! Do you want pride, honor, as well as be part of the worlds greatest military branch? If so, then take back your letter and stick with the Marines.

  5. Nope. You handed the letter in and now you have to wait to be discharged.

  6. Nope

fact is that you have commited to the Marines and you SHOULD stick it out!

They will be in no hurry to discharge you, nor should they be.

Oh wait a minute now....so it is the recruiters fault?  He told you that you could get that MOS if you qualify.  You don't qualify.  And that is the recruiters fault how?

  7. If they want, they can hold you for the whole year.  You can write your congressman like someone else said and see how that works, but even then they don't have to release you.

  8. what the h**l is wrong with you, you must be after a nice plump bonus you ******
