Avast is a good anti-virus

AVG free and NOD32 are good free Anti Virus softwares.NOD32 has a 30 day commercial trial though..would prefer using AVG.

AVG and Avast are both free. Of the two, I prefer Avast 4 Home, as I've used it successfully for 4+ years. Never had a virus get past it.

Yes there are a few good free anti-virus programs out there, unfortunately you have to pay for them.

I hear AVG and avast are both good.

avira and avast home edition are free.

avira detected some other stuff that avast was not able to detected.

I would use these only for scans if you already have a virus for prevention it is far better to buy one. There are trials for Kaspersky Internet Security, Avira Antivirus, and bitdefender. You may also use the limited version of AVG or clamAV

AGV has a free version, which is pretty good if not better than Norton.
