I am looking for a freeware compiler that supports multiple languages (especially C, C++, Java, Fortran, BASIC, Ada, Pascal, and D).

What I'm looking for is an IDE, compiler, and debugger. Anything that you could give me would be great.

If it helps, I'm running Windows XP Service Pack 2, build 2600 and I have tried GCC and couldn't figure out cygwin and MingW didn't have an IDE.

  1. A compiler is always language-specific. Many IDEs (Integrated Development Environments) allow for many compilers inside the IDE. Eclipse and Visual Studio Express are two you might be interested in. Google them for more info.

As a programmer, allow me to give you some advice: Fortran, BASIC, Ada, Pascal, and D don't have much use.

  2. Eclipse installs everything that you need for Java. You can also use it for C and C++ and a dozen other languages. Cobol anyone?

  3. http://www.microsoft.com/express
