i do know that free can be very rarely found, but i was just wondering. Is there something similar to skype, that can make landline and mobile calling for free? I want it to make calls from my computer and was looking for a service that can do it for free without many strings. I tried VoipCheap, and read up and found that you can only make calls one minute long or you will be charged, and i mean, I want to avoid strings like that so....any help?

  1. try www.talkster.com

there is really nothing good out there....not for VoIP anyway, most free ones have to many restrictions on them....more like a free SIP service...ans with most you cant call cell phones at all!

yes, I know....there are no free calls to cell-phones...try voice.yahoo.com   there are cheap....! but its the same old think, ya gotta download the software....I use Packet8 for all my stuff..

voice.yahoo.com is good and cheap, and you can call cellphones....also use a webcam....I also have skype for some of my friends abroad...

  2. here's for unlimited calling, voip connector is free you only pay for activation and low monthly payment of around $24 check out http://nsksmartphones.acnrep.com

  3. For low-cost pay-as-you-go VoIP calling to PSTN phones, I have used:

Skype, Gizmo Project, Efonica, hotfoon, PcCall, CallCentric, InPhonex, MediaRing Talk, Yahoo Voice, Vbuzzer, Damaka, and yes, even GoogleTalk (it is possible to call PSTN over GTalk with GTalk2VoIP).

If you have a little more tech savvy and a configureable softphone (X-Lite, ExpressTalk, SJPhone, Open Wengo, MyJabberAE, etc.) or configurable ATA (Linksys PAP2T), then I also use:

InPhonex, CallCentric, Les.net, Voip.ms, SipPhone, IdeaSip

    --------------------------------------...

    But, for free calling:

There are always strings attached to free calling.  Free calling is allways a marketing ploy.  If nothing else, it is designed to get you to use and promote their service - usually as an introductory offer or while in beta development phase until a customer base is established.

One you can try is MediaRing Talk.  Their current promotion is good through Jan. 31st, 2008.  You get free 10 minute calling from their free softphone on your PC.  There is no daily restrictions.  You can call a number back every time your 10 minutes is up.  Calls are free to USA, Canada, China, Singapore, and Hong Kong.

The only true free Internet calling is what is called "in-network calling" (only small strings attached).  Many VoIP services offer free In-Network calling.  The catch is that you and the person you are calling have to have  accounts with their service.  If you can convince family and friends to get accounts with the same provider, you can "sometimes" get true free calling between account holders (depending on the service provider).  And often, there is not any money involved or required (it is designed to get you to try and like the service enough to ugrade to a higher paid service - but you're not required to do so).

Two such services that offer completely free in-network calling is CallCentric and InPhonex.  You can download free softphones from their web sites and truely call other family and friends who also signup for "free accounts".  And, here in-network calling is truely free - no sign-up fees, no limitations, no obligations, no charges of any kind - as long as your calls are "In-Network" calling.

I have links on my web site to these and other sites that allow free "in-network" calling.  Link is in my profile.
