Would you oppose an incinerator in your neighborhood for one type of waste but not others? Why or why not?

  1. It really depends on the composition of the waste. In the municipal wastes there is a possibility of contamination with small chemical wastes like batteries, waste pesticides, cleaning solutions etc. In industrial wastes there are h**l of a lot of chemicals. Coming to the medical waste the cotents will be basically the severed parts, blood stained fabric, needles, glass, expired medicines, etc. I think I wouldnot oppose if there is a medical waste incinerator (added to that the area is made free of predatory animals). I would oppose municipal and industrial incinerators. I dont agree with the person answered before me, who stated that there would be air pollution and odour due to incinerator. Odour is generated if the temperatures are maintained less than 800 degrees centigrade. But in incinerators the temperatures will be maintained at 1200 degrees centigrade in secondary chamber. So there is no possibility of odour. If there is odour it means that the incinerator is not being operated properly.

  2. Incinerating municipal, medical, or toxic industrial waste doesn’t real have a fundamental difference because all of them seem potentially dangerous to the environment. According to Wikipedia, “the combustion product gases exhausted to the atmosphere by incineration are a source of concern. The main pollutants in the exhaust gases include acid gases such as hydrogen chloride, sulphur dioxide, nitrogen oxides (referred to as NOx), and carbon dioxide.” Truthfully, I wouldn’t want an incinerator in my neighborhood at all. Incinerators let off smells and air pollution which could really harm our community. If anybody decided to add an incinerator in my area, I will be the first one to move
