  1. a cvt drive system stands for a constant variable transmission

its a belt driven clutch that has weights and springs and different ratio of gears

the cvt clutch is a pressed piece of sheet metal made into gears as the engine speed increases the weights move outward and engage a different ratio of gears

it has flaws, the springs, and the cvt belt wears out, and the belt slips when it gets wet or when you run the bike in a stalling condition.

back in the 60's and 70's mini bikes, used a centrifugal clutch that is almost similar to a cvt drive system

  2. if i understand correctly it's a tapered cylinder and a belt, and as the rpms climb the belt moves from the skinnier end to the fatter end (i believe i'm not totally positive)

  3. not sure about the transmission, but there sure are a lot of gearboxes riding them

  4. Almost all motorcycles made have a manual gearbox.

Honda was the main motorcycle manufacturer to release an automatic transmission on bikes, The Honda system is similar to what was used on their cars. I've included two links to give a better description. Scooters use a different drive system they use a CV drive system.
