Question:

Is there a good archival adhesive for sticking small photographs down, efficiently?

I want to stick small slices (about 1/4-1/2 inch wide) of photographs (color, from film, not digital) onto a backing board, and need something that is not too time consuming, and also acid free. Spray mount is too powerful and flips the pieces over, or coats the edges, too. Roll mount in a dispenser and Photo-splits take a long time; same with double stick tape. Glues are very messy, and often peel up after drying.

If there is a great product that not only does what I need, but is also re-positionable once or twice before becoming permanent, that would be even better!

Any sources or websites for products are appreciated!

  1. Ah, well, I was going to recommend the double-sided photo mount squares that are used in scrapbooking -- small, thin, acid free, they dispense easily off a tape.

There's a glue-stick like item that you could try, but it sucks.  We tried it for a project for my daughter and that's when we found the photo sticker squares.

But it sounds like you've already ruled them out.

If those really won't work, I'd check the scrapbooking section of your local craft store for other ideas.  A good camera store might have other possibilities, but I suspect you're gonna find the spray there.
