More specifically in PA or NY. A group of my friends want to go camping like how they see it in the movies. Next to a lake and you can fish for your own food. Hopefully there is one where you can have a fire...and you can hide alcohol. =)

  1. in connecticut, on the boarder of ny, there's a campground named lone oak. there's a big lake thats about a 10 minute drive from the campground.. for a small fee, you and your buddies can rent a boat (no license is required) and fish all day. alcohol is allowed at the campground, but you just gotta keep it down after midnight.. fires are also permitted

  2. For that sort of experience your best bet is to look at  camping areas in the Adirondack State Park. There are many secluded lakes in the park that have campsites on the lakeshore. Most however must be reached by foot, so lugging in cases of beer (and lugging out the empties) isn't really a good idea. Therfore I suggest you bring some good scotch or burbon and learn to drink it neat (no ice.)

PA State parks officially forbid alcohol, however I've never been busted by rangers for drinking. Then again, we never get rowdy to the point where the rangers have to pay us a visit.

To be honest, wherever I car-camp I never pay any attention to the alcohol regulations. Maine, Vermont, New Hampshire, New York, and PA...I don't think it's ever been an issue and no one has ever said anything to me whether I was on state park or federal land.
