Is there a good place to rent a car in Nikko, Tokyo?

I just want to rent it in the afternoon and drive around the country side, see a bit of the rural Japan when I take my trip there. I'm doing Mount Haruna and back in the same day. And I want to do it by car, just to say I did it. So, any place to rent?

  1. First of all, Nikko is not in Tokyo..

Secondly, there are a bunch of rent-a-car shops everywhere...

So where do you want to rent a car??

If in Tokyo, which area of Tokyo???

  2. Nippon rent-a-car and  Nissan rent-a-car have their depot at

JR & Tobu Nikko station. They don't speak English any though.

Toyota rent-a-car has the depot at Tobu Shimo-Imaichi station.

You need international driver license or Japanese driver license and valid credit card for payment of course. Reservation shall be necessary for Summer season.

BTW, Nikko is not in Tokyo but about 100miles North away from Tokyo. In addition, the route from Nikko to Mt. Haruna makes you a stimulated mountain road drive more than 5 hours one way. It is not easy driving for stranger.

I could say you can make it.
