Question:

Is there a good way to send crayons to school WITHOUT buying a brand new box?

With 2 children I literally have close to 1000 crayons - And all are perfectly fine in almost new condition. I DREAD the idea of buying a new box ( which falls apart by week 6 anyway ) but my husband said it would be awful to send a bunch of crayons in a ziploc bag - Is there a more permanent box to keep the crayons? You would think Rubbermaid or someone would have a durable lasting way to keep crayons. Anyway, does anyone send crayons with their kids on the first day NOT in a brand new box?

  1. Im a school teacher and I say just buy a pencil box and put them in there.  They all get ruined on the first week of school anyway.  Or gather a few and tie a rubber band around them and put them in a pencil case.

  2. I hear you.  I have a ton of crayons too.  But really, all you're spending is like $1; 25 cents if you get the sale.  The school doesn't ask you to send any more crayons throughout the year, so it doesn't matter if the box breaks apart or not.  The crayons are good all school year.

  3. This is a cute idea. Get a cute cell phone cover for an iphone and put 10 crayons inside. On the outside write your kids name with glitter glue.

  4. Cool fun idea.

    1. Get a bunch of same color crayons and melt them.

    2. Mold them into fun shapes. && let it harden.

this way its a new cool idea. but you dont have to buy new ones.

  5. you could get a plastic pencil box to put them in. They have them at wal-mart.

  6. Get a pencil box..that's what I do.  There is no reason to buy new crayons if you have all the colors they need in good shape at home.

  7. I think part of the fun of school is new EVERYTHING".  I mean, your children only have a few years where they will use crayons anyway.  Why not let them have new things like everyone else?

Wal-Mart has 24 count crayons for 88 cents right now.

  8. No, we send a new box .. mainly because the crayons at home by the end of summer are well used, lol.  If I had new/like new ones I would use them.

I believe one time at a small craft store near us they sold a plastic box for crayons, but I don't remember who made it.  What I would do is look in the Rubbermaid isle at a larger store and see if they don't make a smaller box (maybe soap size) that would work.

  9. Plastic Soap Box....for travel.   Have your kids decorate it and make it their own.  Since the travel boxes come in different shapes and sizes, take 24 crayons with you to the store to be sure they all fit without breaking them.

Oh....I just thought of something.   Do you remember the old metal bandaid boxes?   See if you can find something like that....I know they hold 24 because we used to spray paint (our parents did) and then decorate to use as storage boxes.

  10. place a rubberband around them

  11. I put my daughters in a plastic pencil box,  she usually ends up putting them in a zip lock bag and putting them in her pencil box with her pencils and such.

  12. no i always send a brand new box every year. But more power to ya, send the ones you have at home. MAybe next time you buy crayons for home use save the box. That way when they need crayons at school you can send the old crayons in a new crayon box. But i think sending the colors in a small plastic box is fine. Just decorate it with stickers and draw designes and their name with pemenant marker  to make the box look cool. I keep our crayon at home in diperwipe boxes. or those wet wipe for kid boxes. Go to the container store. look at the toy storage tab @ containerstore.com They must have somthing there you could use. GOOD LUCK!!!
