First time user of GPSs, and I know very little about them. I want one which I can load Google Earth (and also OS maps?) on to, and which will show me where I am on the Google Earth picture. Does such an instrument exist?

  1. Not really.  There are very expensive Trimble GPS units that actually run WindowsMobile where you could load aerial photography into ArcPad, a geographic information systems program.  They could probably show OS maps too, if they are in a format the program can use.  DeLorme makes the PN-20 and PN-40 where you can load aerial photos and topographic maps, but those are for the American market.  Bushnell may have a unit that allows you to load aerial photos, but I am not sure.  The ability to show aerial imagery like you seen in Google Maps/Earth is fairly new to consumer-grade handheld GPS receivers.
