Question:

Is there a hidden agenda to drive the elderly from the roads by confiscating their licences?

I truly believe the DVLA with the tacit but unspoken connivance and approval of Government (Dept of Transport) has a new undeclared and unpublished Policy of depriving or confiscating the licenses of old people on trivial pretexts, and making it almost impossible for them to be returned. This appears to be deliberate bureaucratic obfuscation, obstruction, and wilful, without the public being told.

Experience of an 80-year old friend has convinced me of this. -Have you, or has anyone you know, had similar experiences?.

I don't condone bad driving, by anyone, the young, the old, or the middle-aged, and certainly support weeding out of public menaces, age-related or not. But I do think that if such practices are being practised, that is wrong, until the subject has been fully debated, and is transparently fair and above board- don't you?

  1. In US (You sound British or UK, Mrs. Doubtfire as we call it DMV here) it does occasionally make mistakes, but our older people usually have family or outside resources to help them challenge the unfair attacks on older drivers.  We go case by case and many licenses are restored once the citizen passes the eye test or driving test required.  Driving here is still listed as a "privilege" rather than a "right," and some far younger ppl have had their permits revoked by the same process.

  2. No there is no hidden anything,  As long as the persons eyesight and health are OK then they will still be able to keep their licence.
