  1. Yes U can buy one ,and they are very good.

  2. I agree with the second answer.

  3. 20 amps at 120 volts? that is a 2500 watt unit.

This will draw 250 amps out of your car battery, more than your starter uses.  A brand new large car battery will last less than 20 minutes under this load. Then it's dead, and incapable of being recharged.

  4. They are available up to about 8 - 10 kW (80A). Most do 120V 1ph, but a few also do 240V 1ph. These require heavy copper cables, and should be located close to the batteries. Large deep discharge batteries (often in pairs or by 3's) are much better suited that standard auto batteries. As Bill notes, your car battery won't last long, better to use it for only a minute or two at a time. Cheaper inverters have waveforms that are marginal. They are OK for motors and some electronics, but some want "true sine wave" outputs, which are quite expensive. The cheap ones run as little as $100/kW (you need 2.4kW, figure $200 - $300).

Here's some heavy duty inverter links, but if you are using 120VAC, you can get your size at your local auto place:

  5. Yes, I think that you can find one. But the problem will be its cost!!
