  1. To become a Canadian Citizen you must swear allegiance to the queen (Elisabeth 2 ) - that is why I never became a Canadian citizen!

  2. Yes. It's Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom. She is the Queen regnant of sixteen independent states and their overseas territories and dependencies. Though she holds each crown and title separately and equally, she is resident in and most directly involved with the United Kingdom, her oldest realm, over parts of whose territories her ancestors have reigned for more than a thousand years. In addition to the United Kingdom, Elizabeth II is also Queen of Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Jamaica, Barbados, the Bahamas, Grenada, Papua New Guinea, the Solomon Islands, Tuvalu, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Antigua and Barbuda, Belize, and Saint Kitts and Nevis, in each of which she is represented by a Governor-General. The 16 countries of which she is Queen are known as Commonwealth Realms.

The current Governor-General of Canada is Michaëlle Jean.  Jean was appointed by Queen Elizabeth II, on the recommendation of Prime Minister Paul Martin, to succeed Adrienne Clarkson and become the 27th governor general of Canada since Confederation in 1867. As the current Governor General of Canada, she is entitled to be styled Her Excellency while in office, and The Right Honourable for life; given current practice, she will be sworn to the Queen's Privy Council for Canada after her term as the Queen's representative has ended. An official announcement about the appointment was made on August 4, 2005. Her investiture took place on September 27.

  3. Yes, the Queen of England is also Queen of Canada that is Queen Elisabeth the second.

  4. Canada is a parliamentary democracy. However the British monarch is the symbolic head of state represented in Canada by the Governor General, Michaelle Jean, a very dignified and lovely lady of Haitian descent. The present British monarch is Queen Elisabeth II.

Rachelle above gave a comprehensive reply, however, the ancestors of the present queen did not rule Britain for 'thousands of years'.  The present queen's heritage is the house of Windsor, which is of recent Germanic descent.

I don't have the list of British ruling families in front of me, but I can state with certitude that there were a number of them.

The one that comes to mind most readily is Henry VIII and his daughter Elisabeth I who belonged to the house of Tudor,

Throughout Britain's long history there were numerous conquests and internal wars for the monarchy (The war of the Roses, The Norman conquest etc.) With each of these wars the royal family changed.

  5. Elizabeth ll is the queen.

  6. The answer is no.  But many Canadians do consider Queen Elizabeth II as their "Queen"

    best of luck to you!
