Is there a kit to convert a 22 rifle into a tranquilizer gun?

I was just wondering if anyone knows how to convert a 22 rifle or any other common hunting/BB/air rifle into a tranquilizer gun. I run a nonprofit camp with lots of wild or difficult to catch animals and a tranquilizer gun would come in very handy. I thought maybe we could save some money if this is possible.

  1. Hmmmm . . . . . . .an animal camp? Not a zoo, not a shelter, not a refuge, not a conservatory, but an animal camp. Huh!

Sure this is on the level?

  2. You can't put enough tranquilizer in a .22 size 'dart' for anything bigger than a mouse!

BUY a weapon made for this.  They come in handguns powered by CO2 and rifles that use CO2 or .22 blanks.  They are aproximately .50 caliber with reusable hypo-darts.

  3. You're looking at the same concept as turning a BB gun into a bazooka. The darts are much larger than a .22 round and are usually blown out by compressed air or CO2.  Even if you had a .50 cal muzzleloader, it still wouldn't work without expensive modifications and hard work that would outweigh the benefits. I'm not sure, but I think you need some sort of permit to own one anyway. Sorry, but it just won't work.

  4. Most tranquilizer guns are large caliber as the product [dart] is fairly large. Some commercial units use blank ammunition to propel the dart.

If the range you are working at isn't too long, you might consider a blowgun.

Darts and the various tranquilizer formulations are usually prescribed medications, therefore under strict control.

  5. All the Trank guns I ever seen were air powered.I'm not sure where to get one,but I bet there expensive.
