For example, If you have a prescription for a controlled substance, some pharmacies will let them be picked up anywhere from 2-4 days before you are out of pills and some will make you wait until you are out of the med, is there a law that tells them how many days early it can be picked up?

  1. I dont know about an actual law...  But what I have found is that it is an insurance issue.  If your script was a 30 day supply, your insurance is not going to pay for a refill at 15 days.  Some of it may also be store policy.  As long as they are not breaking the law, they can set their own policy and say, for example, that certain narcotics can only be picked up after a certain amount of time.

  2. There is no law about this.  It is left up to pharmacist's discretion.  Most pharmacists will give you about a week on a thirty day supply.
