Is there a law or regulation in NY state/city that says preschool/early elementary school children should be taught for only half a day? I remmber reading this when I had put my child in preschool a few years ago but I'm not sure if I read this correctly. Any info will be appreciated. Thanks!

  1. No, but the state only funds half day programs through Universal Pre-K. Day care programs are usually full day, as are some Head Starts.

  2. Not sure how it is in NY.  But in NJ. ALL ABBOTT Districts (low income districts) are required to offer a FULL day for preschool and Kindergarten.  This program is HUGE in NJ and as a preschool teacher I have seen the benefits of it two fold.  First, the difference between a child who has attended two years of full day preschool (starts at 3y/o) and a child entering kindergarten who has not have the experience is out of this world!  .. Also, parents of children with a free full day preschool program have the abilities to work and or advance their education without the expense of daycare!  Incredible results! amazing program! EVERY township/ district SHOULD have!
