Question:

Is there a law that people cannot park in residential areas (in front of your house)?

When i have guests at my house they usually park on the street, in front of other people's house (not in front of mail box, drive ways or more then 48 hrs). My neighbor keep asking my guests to remove their cars because she says they cannot park in front of her house because it is her property. Our street is public and guests don't need parking permits to park.

  1. You'll want to call your city traffic enforcement people to find out. Seems to me the street is public, and that her "private property" ends at the sidewalk... but some places may have different laws.

  2. i don't think so but i do that you cant park in front of someones driveway or in it

  3. the city street in front of a house is public property and anyone can park in front of any house as long as they do not block there driveway  so there is nothing your neighbor can do about it unless the vehicle is parked illegally

  4. As long as it is a public road anyone can park anywhere and that includes in front of your home.....

  5. Pubic roads do not belong to the owners of adjacent property.  The neighbor is dead wrong.  Go to your local department of motor vehicles and pick up a Driver's Handbook.  This should contain the relevant information.  If not, try the state motor vehicle code online, or, order a copy from the department.  In most states, a hard copy of the vehicle code costs beteen five and ten dollars.

One thing to watch out for.  If you neighbor keeps insisting, and, you or your guests don't move, keep an eye out for any deliberate damage she may try to do.  Some people, when they find that the police won't do anything about the parking situation because it is NOT against the law, will do desparate things to discourage any further parking in front of their houses.

  6. its a public street and your neighbor does not own the street in front of her house. she just has more nerve than you,<

  7. You cannot park in front of a driveway or a mailbox or a fire hydrant.

Private property extends to the grass or a lawn (and also a driveway). The curb and sidewalk is city (public) property, and she has no legal authority to regulate who may or may not park there for any amount of time.

    Your neighbor is incorrect.

  8. I don't no where you live, but I can call the cops if someone is parked in front of my house and they'll make them move it. And yes I live in a public neighborhood.

  9. Don't know about The states but un UK there isn't.

They don't own the road so as long as no obstruction is caused then they have no grounds for complaint

  10. No..the street is public property, not private. She cannot tell people to not park there.

Add: Ask her if she is going to pick up the tab the next time the street is paved.
