Is there a law that says you have to have a mailbox?

If I didn't have a mailbox, I would not have received a Jury Summons. I really don't need a mailbox. It just gets junk mail. My bills are electronic. I keep in touch with people by email and phone. Can I get rid of my mailbox and just not get mail anymore?

  1. they give you a P.O Box in place of it ,if you wish that instead

ask at your local Post Office

  2. no, there is no law, take it down and the junk that comes will be returned to sender.  I did it.

  3. call the people to see.

  4. what if you got something very important that couldn't be emailed or called on the telephone?  what would you do? law or not , you need a mailbox.

  5. There's no law that says you must have a mailbox but a lot of things require some sort of post office physical address.  For instance utility bills and drivers license requires a physical address.  Also, if you want to vote, you must have a physical address and not a P.O. box.

You physical address can be something like 47 Main  Street, your town, state and zip.  I've seen physical addresses as the first house on the right in Tara estates followed by the town, state and zip.

You would have gotten jury summons anyway.  A process server would have sought you out personally and delivered it to you.  If it happened in front of a nosy person, all kinds of stories might go around about possible reasons you got a summons and some of the stories might not be very flattering.
