Question:

Is there a legal age to rule in Britain?

I know in the old days of monarchy, especially in Ancient Egypt and America, someone could become king at age 5 if their parents died or something but they would be dependent on a co-regent. So given this, is their a legal age limit for an heir to become king or queen in Britain and other places?

  1. There is no limit to age. However, if the monarch is a child, a regent is appointed until the monarch achieves majority (or insists)

  2. Even a newborn can become monarch, although a Regent would be appointed until the monarch reaches age 18.

The minor child's Regent would be the next person in line to the Crown who was not otherwise disqualified to serve as monarch (minority, disqualification per the Act of Settlement, etc).

This is covered in the Regency Act, 1937.

  3. No.

Who are these ancient kings of America?

  4. no

  5. No, the child would still be king or queen, but there would be a  person who would rule in place of the child until they were around 18 or 20. That is if they lived, mind you many children who were very young would end up dead. I mean why rule and not have the title and full power of king if all that is stopping you is a 10 year old. It's sad but true. =)
