Is there a legal sniper rifle you can own in the U.S? usually i have a lot of information on military but this has been a weak point. Does the united states allow citizens to own military style rifles, sniper rifles with a exotic weapon permit or is it all out banned?

  1. Yes, you can own just about any rifle you want as long as it's not a machinegun without any kind of permit. You can own a fully automatic machinegun with a $200 permit/ tax stamp. Hope this helps.

  2. Dude you are in the land guns itself you should have no problem. You should see the rules and regs they have for gun ownership here in Australia, but I dont have any probs with owning any sniper rifles.

My current inventory currently consists of

    1 x M40A3 yeah its real, instead of the 10x Unertl i have the 3-12 S&B

    1 x M24 yep shes real but instead of the 10x M3 i have the 3.5-10 M3

  3. i cant believe liberals have dumbed down people about gun ownership this much.... you can own every sniper rifle ever created as far as i know with the right paperwork for some. you can even own a machine gun if u have a permit (not that hard to get, or at least in my state)

  4. For the most part, many US Sniper Rifles start based on the Remington 700 weapon platform. They are then modified to meet the need of the specific department/organization.

In the US, it is perfectly legal to own a Sniper Rifle without any additional requirements. The only time this would change, is if you were to put a sound suppressor on it. THEN you would need to register it with the BATFE.

  5. If you can shoot well, and have a high enough powered rifle, anything can be a sniper rifle.   My father owns a British 303 Enfield #5.  It has been relegated to deer hunting status, but it has a flash supressor, wind sight and it is bolt action.  It is a classic sniper rifle usualy used for jungle warfare.   A .22 in the hands of a capable marksman is a sniper rifle.

  6. Yeah you can get Remington versions of the m24/700 bolt action rifle. In the US you can pretty much but any type of miltary gun, your just realy restricted to semi rather then full automatic.

  7. John F Kennedy was killed with a bolt action italian military rifle, which was never released as a sniper rifle at all. It was simply a regular miltitary rifle fitted with a scope. Any high powered rifle with a scope can be used to snipe with. Normally a long range sniper has a longer, thicker barrel. But it's not the rifle that makes it a sniper. It's the guy looking through the sight. But if you don't know that,

I recommend sticking with my favorite, the Halo 3 version.

  8. It depends.  If by 'sniper rifle' you mean a .50 BMG, and you're a california resident, you can't legally own it.  Many of the democratically controlled communist states have stupid gun laws or their own version of the assault weapons ban of 1994 or worse.  New York doesn't let you have certain military style weapons with collapsing stocks and other unimportant features.  Your best bet is to check your state laws because there aren't any federal laws that apply to your situation.  http://www.atf.gov/firearms/index.htm is where you can find your particular state's law.

  9. you can buy civilian lines of every sniper rifle available to the military.
