  1. 18 letters is the limit.

  2. Also cant use a name , thats on record , for at least 20 or 25 years. Can't really remember the exact amount of time.

  3. Yes, 18 letters is the limit. And there are a lot of other restrictions. They don't like you naming a horse after a living person, using a movie name, or anything copyrighted, etc. With 35,000 new registered Thoroughbreds born every year, it gets harder and harder to come up with names that have not already been used.

  4. Yes.  Once again kmnmiamisax's answer is right on point. I've pasted the link to the Jockey's Club naming rules below in case you are interested in some of the other rules (there are quite a few).  I hadn't realized before that Imawildandcrazyguy has used the total number of letters permitted (18).  Note that spaces and punctuation marks count as letters.

  5. yes, the Jockey Club has tons of restrictions on race horse names.  There is a limited number of letters... Imawildandcrazyguy used them all... that's 18 letters.  There's also a bunch of restrictions about not resuing names, not naming after people and things like that.

  6. 18.......if i get a horse i will name him

    'WESAWTHEGREATCIGAR"

  7. Yes the posters above are correct the jockey club allows up to 18 letters.

  8. I think there is a minimum as well. I always thought it was four letters but then Brew won the Melbourne Cup so I think it must be three.
