  1. That is such a good question. I'll offer my thoughts, although I'd suggest calling your bank to be sure. Otherwise, as with my daughter, you face grave credit rating consequences from a bounced check, not to mention fees galore (which in and of themselves can add up to an overdrawn account).

Usually the limit on a debit card applies to an ATM withdrawal. Unless you know of continuing limitations at the time your account was first opened (e.g., it's one you set-up as a teenager that you still use), a check should be fine as long as your funds cover the amount. Sometimes there is a minimum balance required to keep an account open, though, so that would be my main concern.

Take care, sweetie. Have fun learning..

  2. ya I paid off a student loan with a check of about $3000 in one payment. You can write a check for however much you got, debit cards usually have a limit of $5000 a day

  3. Yes you can

  4. As long as you have the funds to cover it, you can write any amount you wish on the check.  Some banks have a limit on the NUBMER of checks you can write in a month.

  5. You can pay with a check but if you want touse your card you can call your banks customer service line and they can temporarily raise your point of sale limit.

  6. Yes, you can pay entire amount.

I suggested to provide routing number and account number, when asked in another question. That is the same thing as accepting checks on-line.  Isn't this a dorm fee, due by Friday ?

  7. ~~You can write a check for as much as you want providing you have the funds to cover it in your checking account. There are no limits.~~
