I think the link is with Egypt herself, Herodotus got the story of Atlantis at the Temple of Edfu.  2012 scenario comes from two sources that I know of, one is Hispanic and the other Jewish, and there was something found, but they have been silent on what, do know there are rooms under the Sphinx and supposedly a library as well as a labrynth, but Hawass has not confirmed what the Americans found.
