Is there a logical reason to why women have cramps and feel so sensitive during their periods?

There are usually scientific/psychological explanations to our physiological experiences. When we have a toothache, it's bad for our health so we should get rid of it. Or if we are always angry and hyper, maybe we are drinking too much coffee. It's very painful to bear a baby, which may remind people it's a huge responsibilty and award to have one.. etc

So why do women have to feel so awful during their pms and periods?

  1. it kind of seems like a catch 22 from god.  he's saying here's these nasty cramps, and the only way to relieve them is to get it on with your partner and try to get pregnant.  way back when, before contraception, it probably wasn't hard to get pregnant.  so, if you do get pregnant, you get at least a 9 month reprieve from the cramps and bleeding.

  2. hmm...i always thought you get cramps because it is your muscles going into spasms cause they are squeezing out your little blood nest thing....perhaps i am wrong.

  3. muscle contraction. ^_^

  4. I think it is a means of self-preservation with the lack of blood and the hormonal changes that are the reason it happens.  I become more aggressive and just generally feel wiped out, like every last bit of energy has been sucked out. I just want to be left alone, I think this is the body's way of taking care of itself until things have been brought back to normal, I think the body looks at it as having to repair itself.
