Question:

Is there a lot wrong with laying paving slabs direct on to mud?

I'm going to whack a few paving slabs on my front lawn and park my new car on it for a bit, I'm quite sure the paving slabs won't crack under the weight of the car, so I'm thinking why bother with hardcore etc, as a few slabs will do the job for now, am I misguided?

  1. I doubt anyone could attest to you being misguided, and depending on the stability of the soil, what possible difference can it make if you don't do something more extensive. Since we can't judge MUD in your particular case, perhaps just have a ton of sand dropped, and spread it.

Obviously there doesn't seems to be concern about a yard, and if the vehicle won't drop into a sink hole, why stress?

  2. The pavers will sink into the ground when it's wet. You need to per pair the sub straight with 3 to 4 inchs of packed gravel

  3. A possibility is to spread some fine gravel #6 with sand and use Permeable Pavers, so water can drain through it and grass and weed can grow through it, which will stabilize the underground. It keeps the view of the lawn as a lawn and you have a place to park your car and keeps you feet clean.

  4. You should be ok as long as it's not permanent and the ground doesn't freeze.
