  1. Yes about 5 years ago my friend from Uni of Arizona did a degree on Anthropology- at the time they didn't have a specific major so he created it himself through subject selection etc with support from staff. I am assuming it is an actual degree there now, and probably becoming more common at other universities. If not then do what he did.

If you want to get into using skeletal ancestry and using it to determine identification of skeletons, then forensic anthropology is a great  major.  Race IS still a focus of forensic anthropology, because it helps rule out an additional portion of the population when trying to make a positive identification of a skeleton.  The University of Tennessee at Knoxville has a good program, as does the University of Toronto, Missassauga campus.

  3. sociology and anthropology of identity/difference/ethnicity are majors i have taken as part of my degree.  The ancestry part not really there. and you'll find noone really talks about 'race' anymore, it is a faux pas acadmically speaking.
