Question:

Is there a max memory card (cf) size you can use with a camera?

My husband has a trail camera (for taking pics of wildlife on farm), we bought a cf card for it, but it doesn't seem to work right when it is in the camera. Is it possible that a 1 GB is too much for it to handle? We know virtually nothing about cameras, so I'm just wondering if this is even possible or if any camera will work with any memory amount. Thanks.

  1. Yes, many P&S cameras have limits. You'll have to check your manual or the manufacturers website to find out details.

However, I'd be surprised if it can't handle a 1 GB card..... is the camera pretty old?

  2. To answer your questions yes many cameras have a maximum size for the memory card. Canon SLR's for instance can only take up to an 8gig card. Check the owners manual or contact the manufacturer for a maximum card size.

A 1gig card is not that big and unless the camera is very old it should work. Try using a new card and see if that works. If not you might need to have the camera looked at.

  3. I don't think cameras have limits with the size of compact flash, only with HCSD cards. Btw, I'm not quite sure what you mean by a 'trail camera.' Anyways, try formatting the card or consider getting camera checked.
