  1. Not really...if you're able to get on it, it should be ok. I've seen some very large people on bikes around where I live. Size shouldn't hold you back from what is a clean and envigorating way to get about.

  2. no limt a mountain bike rims and tires can hold 1,000 pounds before it breaks so if you don't weigh 2,000 pound the bike will hold you and most good bikes are made of steel

  3. Most mountain bikes are pretty strong. I'm 245 pounds and my friend is 280 pounds and we ride mountain bikes without breaking them. And of course last year when I rode a lot I went down in weight.

  4. Wheels and saddles are likely to be the 'weak links' for weight limits. A good bike shop should be able to address your concerns. Don't let weight keep you - or a friend - off a bike.

  5. Yes, there will be a known maximum weight that any bike will take (during pre-production, bikes are tested to breaking point so stresses on frame, joints etc are all catalogued) but it will depend on the individual model of bike.

They're all made to be extremely tough, however, so I wouldn't have thought it would be an issue.

Here are the folk I'd ask: the experts at the specialist cycle shop "Action Bikes" http://www.actionbikes.demon.co.uk/hardr...

  6. For most bikes no, however there are models that do have a weight limit, but these tend to be bikes designed for racing. One other issue is certain components have a max. recommended weight also, but again these are intended for competition use. If the person is very heavy you might want to talk to someone at a bike shop on what would be the most durable.

  7. Come to think about it, but I have not noticed bikes being sold with weight limitation stickers on it. However, manufacturers surely must know the limitations of their products. I suggest that you check it out first with the dealer before buying a bike. Also I have not yet seen a 400 pound man on a mountain bike before. I wonder how long the tires will hold out. hehehehehe!!!

  8. I've never seen it on a bike but I know sports equipment like steppers, exercise bikes..etc usually state that you shouldn't be over 100kg (about 16 stone) to use them.

But that's probably just the makers covering themselves in case a big person injures themself or breaks the equipment. I've definitely seen really big people riding bikes.

Ask in a bike shop or phone them if you want to be anonymous!
