I think anything is possible!So maybe! My friend says people are purple and the sky is orange....and I believe in aliens and I think humans misinterpret everything! With our eyes, the sky may seem blue, but cats or dogs or fish could be seeing it in orange or green or yellow...We're never going to know....and thats just the mysteries of life!

Anything is possible. Your Question doesn't specificaly say the oceans of earth. So perhaps on an other planet in an other solar system, a sentient being has evolved into something resembling merpeople.

No one has ever produced evidence of a real mermaid or merman.  People have used their imaginations or have misinterpreted what they have seen to come up with the ideas of these mythical creatures.
