Question:

Is there a monthly admin fee associated with EZpass?

I've read conflicting info on this, some seem to indicate you pay a $1 admin fee per month, others don't say this.

I even thought I once read that if you don't use your pass for a set amount of time, you will start incurring a $1/month fee.

Just curious, it would be convenient to have one for the occasional trip on the east coast, but I wouldn't bother with it if I had to pay $1/month just to have it.

Also...I'm not talking about the fee associated with requesting monthly statements, I'm aware you can get those online quarterly for free.

  1. The E-ZPass Inter Agency Group is made up of a number of different toll agencies spread across 12 states. You can open an account with any agency, it doesn’t matter where you live. You are not required to maintain your E-ZPass account with an agency in your home state. There are some agencies who will charge you a monthly account fee (usually about $1) while there are others who make you pay up-front for each new transponder (between $25 and $30). However, there are a few agencies who will give a free transponder without charging you a monthly fee. You can get a free E-ZPass transponder with no monthly fee from the Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission, the Maryland Transportation Authority, the Peace Bridge Authority and the Illinois Tollway Authority. The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission does charge an annual service fee of $3 however, their transponders are free and they charge no other fees.

  3. Depends what state you went through to get it. If you got it in New Jersey you pay $1.00 a month. In the past if you had gotten through New York, there was no fee. I don't know if it has changed for New York since.
