Question:

Is there a national online school that's free?

I've been searching for a way to get out of my current school since August. It's a horrible school and I want to be able to get a job. I'm really not fit for a traditional school and I can't get along with any of the kids. I always feel nervous and stressed when I'm at school and I have no friends because of all the differences (I'm Californian and I moved to Georgia... it's like moving to a new country).

Georgia does not have any free online schools (besides one for k-8 and another one where you can only take one course) or charter schools near my area. And private online schools are way too expensive.

Does anyone else of a national online school that's free? Or if not, another way of getting out of my school?

  1. you could ask you school disrict about a program called WOLF. that wut i am in and it is an online high school program. but i live in Nevada but the teachers live all over the U.S. so you will have to ask about it.

  2. http://www.connectionsacademy.com/

Connections, though not sure if they have your state on board yet.

    HEY! Just  found this one

  3. Although it's not up and running there yet, Connections Academy is working to set up their online homeschool in Georgia.  It's free, they even provide technology assistance if you don't have a computer, and they help out with payment for an internet provider.  They serve several states.

California and Georgia are worlds apart, and especially at the high school level it can be very difficult.  I'll keep looking and let you know if I find anything else.  I'm in Oregon, and my neighbor uses Connections Academy to do her kids' homeschooling.  They enjoy it and they're doing very well.

Public school isn't one size fits all.  If you're bright, it can be boring, and if you take a little longer to process information you get branded as learning disabled, and put into Special Ed, slowing you down more.  The whole system needs a serious overhaul.  Good luck to you.

  4. If you are under age, your parents have to be the ones to initiate this move to home education.  A young person cannot assume this responsibility.  Have you talked to them about the stress and pain you seem to be in?   If you go to http://www.hslda.org you can check the laws relating to homeschool for Georgia.  But the way I read them you need to have a parent teaching you or a hired tutor.  So your parents HAVE to be the ones to initiate this.  Compulsory education in Georgia is through age 16.  So if you reach that age and take the GED test, you can go on an take college classes and be done with it all.

I understand your frustrations, but don't try to do this alone.  That what a family is all about.  You can work it out together.

Take care. And best wishes to you.

  5. Here is a place for some free classes:

My son is taking a freshman-level college meterology course there.

  6. The two online schools I know that are free, are K12 and connections academy. K12 has a school in Georgia and Connections Academy has one in development.
