For example, you're near class B airspace...is there a Nav system that would display this airspace on the screen so know where to avoid or what altitude steers you clear.

  1. Most moving-map displays show airspace boundaries and many types of surface marks.  To see what's available, try an internet search on "GPS moving map display."

  2. Moving-map GPS systems (systems that not only display your position as longitude and latitude but also show your position on a map) intended for aviation will generally provide airspace boundaries, as well as warnings telling you when you are approaching or inside certain types of airspace.  Some airspaces are so complex today that it's difficult to navigate in them without this type of GPS, even though technically it's supposed to be possible to navigate without one.

Note that if there is a disagreement between your GPS and ATC, ATC wins, even if you keep the GPS database scrupulously up to date (it must be updated regularly).

  3. Yes,  Most GPS systems have airspace displayed.

  4. Yes any GPS with a data base will display this probably one of the more popular is the Garmin brand

  5. All the way back to the Garmin 195 would even give you warning of when said airspace was within 10 minutes flight time.  Plus the graphic demensions.  Add with the 396, you can run the cursor over the outline to find altitudes, etc.
