  1. If the economy doesn't keep falling.

Most archeaological projects get their funds from grants, private organizations, and universities.

If getting the $ through the government, the government must have the $ to fulfill other priorities at first. If the government is low on $, chances are that the whole economy is low on $. If the whole economy is low on $, then don'te expect anything from private organizations.

Look into capitalism and deindustrialization. I'm guessing by 2050 there won't be much of a need for them at all! We'll be too worried about how we're getting our next meal.

  2. In deed there is because it is the one true way we can find out where we came from.

  3. actually, most archaeological positions in the US today result from the Cultural Resource Management or Historic Preservation process.  There are a myriad of laws (NEPA, NHPA, ARPA... at the federal level and many more at state and local levles) that manadate agencies to consider the impacts or their projects on historic properties (including archaeology).  As a result most construction projects that includes federal money or permits (as well as state level project in many states) need to have archaeological survey completed.  As a result there is a need for new archaeologists.

As a clarification - there is a need for good archaeologists.  I see all to many projects done that could use better staff and field techs.

  4. to move forward we must first study the past

  5. Not at the new "Creationism Museum"......
