i've been directed to a college that offers a 2 years nurse practitioner program for non-nurses who hold ba's in other disciplines. it is a top-notch school with a stellar reputation and difficult to get into. i need to know 3 things if anyone knows: 1) is there a need for psych. np's? and 2) what type of income could i expect? and 3) options for employment?

  1. 1) Yes, big time!  There is a huge demand--people can wait for months to see a psychiatrist.  You will have no problem finding a job, trust me.  It's frustrating to try to set my clients up with a new psych doc because it takes so long for them to get in...psych NPs help fill this gap

    2) www.salary.com--depends on area of the country--expect at least $60,000 and up

    3) Psych clinics, hospitals, open own practice
